College is established since 1989 by the Higher Education Department of V.P. Government vide order No. 2278/143/ek-f’k-/38-2/89 Bhopal Dated 12.07.1989. Initially its name was Government College Basna but from 2003 the college is renamed as Govt College Tamnar vide order No. F 73/155/m f’k/2002 Raipur Dated 15.01.2003 of Higher Education Department of Chhattisgarh Government.
